Other factors besides hormonal changes can also cause bloating, such as your genes, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, a high-salt diet, or excessive caffeine and alcohol consumption. These factors can all increase water retention and cause your abdomen to feel bloated or swollen.

When does period bloating occur?

Most women experience bloating in the days leading up to their period. It usually begins a week or two before menstruation and usually subsides within a few days of bleeding. It’s often a part of PMS, or premenstrual syndrome, and its severity can vary.

The third step is regular exercise. This can significantly help reduce PMS symptoms. When you’re active, your blood circulation improves, your mood improves, and inflammation is naturally controlled.

Experts say it’s important to get some physical activity every week. You can do a few hours of moderate activity each week, such as brisk walking, cycling, or swimming. If you prefer more vigorous exercise, you can also do an hour or more of vigorous activity a week.
